Our story

Sparks Yard General Store was opened in 2003 by me, Holly. It has always been a dream of mine to own a shop, probably because I love shopping so much! My aim was to create a place filled with desirable things to give as presents, keep for yourself and generally make you smile.

We occupied only the ground floor of our beautiful Victorian Grade II listed warehouse back then and with the help of my mum, Jane, Sparks Yard was an overnight success. My mum was only supposed to help for a few weeks until I found my feet. Three years later she was still my girl friday. We had no idea it would be so busy.

My husband Andy came to join me with running Sparks Yard in early 2005 and his input has been paramount to the success of our store, especially when our son, Digby was born in 2009 and later when our daughter Honey arrived in 2014.

The year after we opened, in 2004, we expanded the store onto the second floor to incorporate the coffee bar, cook shop and home store. The team grew and we are now a really big family! In 2014 we got even bigger, opening the third floor of the building as a coffee house, kitchen and bar, called The Loft, a Californian inspired eatery. Here you can get the best burger for miles around, sip a cocktail or simply come up for a coffee whilst browsing the shop. And the views over the roof-tops of Arundel are pretty amazing to boot.

Many people ask me where my style influences come from. It would have to be from the amazing stores in the USA, where I have spent many years (shopping mostly!). I love individual one-off things you cannot find on the high street and we spend much of our time sourcing things we think you will all love.

Our home,The Piano Store, is now behind the shop so you will always see one of us here, Digby riding his bike in the yard, Honey running around in the restaurant demanding marshmallows or our resident mascot, Ernie the dog, who is quite the celebrity in Arundel! This sums up our whole ethos for Sparks Yard. We are a family store, full of all sorts of gorgeous things for anyone and everyone. Whether you need an individual birthday gift for an adult or child, to the newest cookbook or kitchen gadgetry, to a spot of lunch, an evening if cocktails and fun or something for your home. This is how we live and Sparks Yard is a projection of who we are. We value the good life and we want our store to be a complete lifestyle destination, a one stop to inspire and connect. Live Like Us.

We really hope to see you at Sparks Yard if you're passing.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
